Extra Small Unique Fine Weave Sisal Baskets
AUD$17.97 – AUD$29.95
The baskets from our Unique Fine Weave Basket collection feature intricate highly skilled baskets weaves that create unique designs, hand woven in Kenya and made in five different sizes.
Use our smaller baskets as funky planters or as bright and stylish desk tidies for all your pens and pencils. Our larger designs make fabulous storage baskets for multi-purpose use all over the home – from the bathroom and the kitchen to the living room and the playroom.
The women who create these striped baskets have woven from a young age: this meticulous, income-generating craft is traditionally passed down along the female line in Kenya. These craftswomen weave within a small but expanding cooperative led by the inspirational Madam Dorcas as Chairlady. Where once these weavers would travel regularly to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets, The Basket Room now provides them with regular and fairly-paid orders, and these completed baskets are then stored in purpose-built mud huts.
Each woven basket is supplied with a thank you card from the weaving cooperative. Production takes place primarily during the dry seasons, since the majority of weavers are from farming families who rely largely on subsistence farming and rainfall. To buy one of our woven baskets is to become part of our story: a tale of empowerment, dignity, and fair trade.

The Basket Room is an ethical lifestyle brand, specialising in handwoven baskets and accessories made in Africa. Woven with vibrant colours & unique patterns, we work directly with weaving cooperatives in rural Kenya, Ghana & Tanzania to create stunning collections.
Our main goal is to create access to market for these talented weavers, to provide them with a sustainable livelihood and the recognition they deserve. Many of the weavers rely on subsistence farming but when crops fail during dry periods, they turn to the art of weaving as an essential alternative income.
Our unique perspective allows us to provide a truly ethical product with minimum outside involvement. Photographs of the weavers with each basket enhances the connection between the maker and buyer, and highlights the transparent supply chain.
