Green is the colour of the season! Is your clothing sustainable? If your wardrobe’s not as green as you’d like, then maybe some myths are holding you back. Here’s a rundown of some of the most popular ones and how to nip them in the bud so you can clinch sustainable and sexy style.

Myth 1: It’s Too Difficult To Find Sustainable Fashion Brands

These days, it’s really not. You’ll easily find loads of clothing brands, both in Australia and internationally, that offer you a guilt-free gorgeous way of dressing. Check out a list by the Weekly Review for a quick rundown of some fabulous brands to get your hands on.

Myth 2: Sustainable Clothing Isn’t High Quality

This myth is quite a confusing one. How can we choose traditional clothing that’s filled with toxins which pollute our environment in favour of sustainable ones? Take synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon. They’re not biodegradable and they require lots of energy to be produced. Nylon releases a large amount of nitrous oxide. This has an effect on global warming that’s 300 times greater than that of carbon dioxide! If you choose clothing that’s made from organic fibres without toxins and synthetic dyes, you’re doing the planet a world of good without compromising your style. That’s what real quality is about.

Myth 3: Sustainable Fashion Is Expensive

You might have to shell out a bit more money for organic items, but cheap and fast fashion is a bad sign – think exploited workers. Remember, too, that a really cheap item of clothing won’t last you as long as a piece of clothing that’s well made. That’s the point – to choose lasting, sustainable items. The bonus is that you’ll have such amazing clothes that they’ll be an investment. And, you’ll require fewer items because you’ll have a capsule wardrobe.

Having a more sustainable wardrobe doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive, or make you compromise on quality. It’s better for you and the environment, so make it a rule that the next item of clothing you buy is green and gorgeous. You’ll feel better and be able to enjoy your stunning fashion for many seasons.
