Now that it’s summer, the idea of an outdoor kitchen is very alluring. But it doesn’t have to remain a fantasy – you can build one on a budget. Here are some tips.

    Stick To The Essentials

What do you really need when cooking outside? It might be less than you think. The basics include a fridge and grill, and then obviously a seating area, but that doesn’t have to be flashy. Some people might want to have a sink in their outdoor kitchen for greater ease when cooking, but this isn’t necessary, especially if the indoor kitchen is within close range.

    Make Use Of Recycled Items

It’s a good idea to salvage as many materials as you can when building your outdoor kitchen, such as reclaimed wood or recycled bricks. This is cost-effective and good to the environment, too.

    Choose Pre-Made Structures

Fancy an outdoor grill or bar? Instead of having it built, which can easily rack up expenses, consider buying pre-made structures. These can also be taken with you if you move homes in future.

    Get Creative

Make use of any furniture from inside your home that you don’t really use, such as a table for serving and preparing food, chairs, cushions, and bar stools. You could even use furniture you wouldn’t ordinarily think of for use in an outdoor kitchen, like cabinets, carts, or dressers for storage.

    Don’t Neglect The Décor!

You can easily make your outdoor kitchen more inviting by concentrating on décor. Since you’re outside, make use of your natural garden as much as possible. Examples include bringing colourful potted plants closer, or hanging plants around the cooking area. Another important décor element is lighting. Hang strings of lights across the porch or in trees, or fill the area with pretty solar lights to create a warm ambiance.
