Six Decor Rules To Ditch This Year

Six Decor Rules To Ditch This Year

[dropcap1]T[/dropcap1]here are always new decor and design rules hitting the scene, but some of them could be holding you back from having a gorgeous home that reflects your personality. Instead of blindly following the following six “rules”, bin them and embrace a more stylish home that’s uniquely you.

You Have To Match Your Metals

No you really don’t! You also don’t have to stick to just one metal you like and avoid all others. Mix silver, rose gold, gold and brass if you like. The key is not to overcrowd a room with too many items, but choosing ones that work well together, regardless of their colours.

Get Rid Of All The Clutter

It’s good to have a neat and tidy space, but not all clutter is bad clutter. Bad clutter includes items that make your space look messy. Good clutter includes accessories and decor items that really work together but look too crowded or “busy” when put together. If you can organise these knick-knacks in a flattering way, then you don’t have to hide them away.

The Dresser Goes Into The Bedroom

Sure, but you can also use dressers in other rooms if you want some extra storage or a beautiful piece of furniture that gives your space character. Some examples of where to put dressers include the lounge, study and entryway.

Your Furniture Needs To Be In The Middle Of The Room

You might be tempted to place sofas, chairs and tables right in the middle of the room, but this doesn’t have to be the only option. You could leave the centre of the room completely bare, showing off beautiful flooring. Putting chairs and a sofa against the wall (although often warned against) could be a good idea if you want your room to appear larger.

You Have To Hang Your Artwork

Paintings don’t only have to go on the wall! They can be put in many other places, such as against a bookshelf or hanging in the middle of the room. Be creative with how you display them so that your artwork makes the greatest effect.

The Coffee Table Is For Coffee

With so many different ideas for coffee tables, such as suitcases, stacks of books or Ottomans, you don’t have to stick to the rule of keeping the coffee table for entertaining purposes only. This limits you to putting it in the middle of your lounge. Coffee tables could be on the side of your sofa, next to a beautiful chair or anywhere they look good. They can be used as resting places for books, lamps, vases or ornaments you want to display, or they could even just become a piece of art on their own.
