[dropcap1]R[/dropcap1]ugs are great in the home to bring warmth to your interiors, but don’t limit them to the bedroom and lounge. A rug in the kitchen can be a great idea. Here’s how to choose the right one to uplift your room.
Work With Your Kitchen Decor
Look at your kitchen decor to choose the perfect rug so that it will suit the room. For instance, if your kitchen is in bright colours, a neutral rug could be great contrast. On the other hand, a kitchen in neutral shades will come to life with a rug in a vibrant colour. In this way, rugs can be easy accessories to uplift your kitchen design.
Play With Shape
A rug can cleverly create interest in your kitchen design if it’s in the right shape for your kitchen. If you have a long space between your counter and kitchen island, a rectangular rug can fill the space and make it a little cozier. On the other hand, if you have lots of square shapes in your kitchen, such as with the cabinets and table, a round rug can be intriguing.
Use Them As Room Dividers
It’s clever to use rugs to create a “break” between certain areas of the kitchen. For instance, if you have a cooking area and dining area, the use of a rug can help to create a sort of room divider between the two. You could also use two rugs – one for each area of the kitchen – but make sure they’re in different sizes. If you stick to the exact same rug they will look a little too structured and boring. However, if they’re in different colours and styles, make sure that they look good together instead of creating too much contrast which can be messy.
Low Pile Or High Pile?
Low pile rugs have flat or short fibres. These are great if you’re putting the rug near doors and they don’t wear away easily from lots of traffic, so if you have kids they’re especially great for practicality. On the other hand, if you feel your kitchen needs some extra comfort, placing a high-pile rug that’s got long or shaggy fibres in the room can be a stylish choice.
